Happy Earth Day

Sustainability is one of our core values here at Linen Social. From the materials we use to create our products, to the packaging we use to ship your orders, we are intentional about reducing our carbon footprint wherever possible.

Today is Earth Day - an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. To celebrate Earth Day, we wanted to share our commitment to sustainability and outline the steps we’ve taken as a business to help protect our planet.

What is Earth Day?

Earth Day is celebrated on the 22nd of April each year, and honours the achievements of the environmental movement while raising awareness of sustainability. The theme of Earth Day 2022 is “Invest In Our Planet”, encouraging companies of all sizes to embrace the benefits of a green economy and take sustainable actions in their business.

We know how important it is to have transparency from your favourite brands, and wanted to share our commitment to sustainability with you. Here are some of the key decisions we’ve made to Invest in Our Planet at Linen Social:

  • Using Eco-Friendly Fibres

  • From beautiful bedding to baby mats, clothing and picnic blankets, all of our products are crafted from 100% French Flax linen.

Linen is a natural, eco-friendly fibre made from flax plants. The manufacturing of flax plants requires less water and energy than cotton, and can be grown without fertilisers or pesticides. The entire flax plant can also be woven into the fibre, meaning less wastage during production.

Linen is stronger and more durable than most other fibres, and is 100% recyclable and biodegradable - making it one of the most sustainable fibres on the planet. Learn more about why we use 100% French Flax Linen here.

  • Using Eco Cart to Offset Carbon Emissions

  •  We are excited to be introducing Eco Cart to our online store, allowing shoppers to offset the carbon footprint of their purchase.

Eco Cart’s unique algorithm calculates the exact carbon emissions from both manufacturing and shipping for each order, giving you the option to donate the exact dollar amount to reduce these emissions by funding forestry, renewable energy or clean water projects.

For the first month of launching Eco Cart, we have committed to paying the offset on behalf of our customers, making all of our products carbon neutral. Learn more about Eco Cart here!

  • Using Sustainable Packaging

  • Sustainable packaging is something we take seriously. We use certified home compostable and fully biodegradable mailing satchels from Better Packaging Co, and packing tape from Biogone which is landfill-biodegradable. Cardboard boxes are also used for packing all of our larger items.

  • Abiding by Eco-Friendly Industry Standards

  •  Our factories abide by STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® - one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. This label gives you certainty that every component of our products (including every thread, button and accessory) has been tested for harmful substances. Read more about Standard 100 here.

  • Choosing to Reuse

  • On a personal level, our team members take responsibility for making sustainable choices both at work and in our everyday lives. We use keep cups and reusable water bottles in the office, and bring lunch from home in reusable containers. Outside of the office, we use reusable bags when shopping, and make intentional decisions to “go green” wherever possible.
